A majority of American voters are convinced the November 8 mid-term elections will significantly impact the US, according to a new poll.
More than eight in 10 registered voters consider voting in the upcoming elections to be extremely or very important, said the latest Associated Press-NORC poll released on Monday.
While majorities of both Democrats and Republicans expect the outcome to impact the country overall and the economy, Democrats are more likely than Republicans to believe the same about abortion policy, reports Xinhua news agency citing the poll.
Voters gave Democrats an edge over Republicans on their ability to handle health care and abortion policy but are more likely to trust the Republicans when it comes to the economy and crime.
On issues including gun policy, foreign policy and immigration, trust in both parties is about equal.
About one in five registered voters don’t trust either party to handle each issue.
Seventy per cent of American voters are dissatisfied with the way things are going in the US, the survey revealed, adding that Republicans were more likely to be dissatisfied than Democrats.
Most voters also have a negative view of the state of politics in the country.
Voters are more likely to feel pessimistic than optimistic about the future of both political parties.
The nationwide poll was conducted October 6-10.
In the upcoming election, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate will be contested.
Thirty-nine state and territorial gubernatorial elections, as well as numerous other state and local elections, will be contested.
The results will determine the 118th US Congress.
Tulsi Gabbard slams Biden
Fresh off announcing her departure from the Democratic Party, Tulsi Gabbard, who was the first Hindu member of the US Congress, compared President Joe Biden to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
She made the remarks during her first weekend on the campaign trail for the November 8 mid-term elections.
Speaking at a town hall event in a town outside Manchester recently, the former Hawaii Congressman and the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate stated she is “pretty confident” that both Biden and Hitler share a “mentality” of good intentions to be authoritarian, justify behaviour, according to audio obtained by The Daily Beast on Sunday.
“I’m pretty sure they all believe they’re doing what’s best,” Gabbard continued. “Even Hitler thought he was doing what was best for Germany, right?
Gabbard, who once was vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, announced last week she was leaving the party, claiming it is now under the “control of an elitist cabal of warmongers”.
According to media reports, Gabbard had found herself increasingly estranged within the Democratic Party after her failed presidential candidacy bid in the 2020 primary.
A staunch critic of President Biden, Gabbard has lambasted him for “pouring fuel on the flames” of the division in the country.
“Today’s Democratic Party racialises everything and blatantly stokes anti-white racism, reducing each of us as God’s children to the color of our skin, using identity politics to tear us apart for their own political gain,” she said in a tweet.
