Russia, Iran sign partnership treaty as leaders meet

The Russian president emphasised the importance of reducing bureaucratic hurdles and taking concrete actions to overcome challenges posed by external pressures, particularly Western sanctions.

In a landmark move, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement during bilateral talks in Moscow. The deal marks a significant step towards deepening relations between the two nations across various sectors.

The agreement outlines an ambitious framework to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, defence, security, space exploration, energy, and counterterrorism. Both countries also agreed to reject third-party sanctions and unilateral coercive measures imposed by external forces.

Iranian President Pezeshkian echoed similar sentiments, stating that the agreement would usher in a new chapter in Russian-Iranian relations, boosting bilateral economic and trade partnerships. He also noted that this collaboration contributes to the creation of a multipolar world, enhancing both countries’ geopolitical standing.

The two leaders also addressed regional issues, with both Russia and Iran aligning their foreign policy positions, particularly in the Middle East and South Caucasus. The agreement is seen as a significant step in shaping the future of both nations and their role in global politics.
