Chinese envoy hosts New Year reception, highlights path to harmony

Wang urged both nations to maintain peace and tranquillity in border areas, advocating for a collaborative approach to resolve disputes….reports Asian Lite News

Charge d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in India, Wang Lei, hosted a vibrant reception in New Delhi on Tuesday to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Speaking at the event, Wang underlined China’s commitment to fostering harmonious relations with India, emphasising cooperation, development, and revitalisation as key pillars of bilateral ties.

Wang urged both nations to maintain peace and tranquillity in border areas, advocating for a collaborative approach to resolve disputes. He highlighted the significance of the upcoming 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties in 2025, noting India’s pivotal role as one of the first nations to recognise the People’s Republic of China.

“The year 2025 marks the 75th anniversary of China-India diplomatic relations,” Wang said. “India was among the first countries to recognise New China and the first non-socialist nation to establish ties with us. As two major developing nations and leaders of the Global South, our stable relations are essential for the well-being of over 2.8 billion people and the broader development of the region.”

Recalling the October 2024 meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan, Russia, Wang noted their agreement to enhance strategic communication and maintain peace along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). “The two leaders viewed bilateral relations from a long-term perspective, paving the way for stable development,” he remarked.

Wang also referenced the 23rd meeting of Special Representatives for the China-India Boundary Question, held in Beijing in December. The discussions yielded a six-point consensus on resolving border issues, demonstrating the commitment of both sides to dialogue and diplomacy.

On the economic front, Wang highlighted a 1.9% year-on-year growth in trade between India and China, with bilateral trade reaching $126.6 billion in the first 11 months of 2024. He also noted a surge in people-to-people exchanges, with 280,000 visas issued to Indians by Chinese embassies and consulates last year.

The reception saw participation from Indian government officials, political leaders, think tanks, media representatives, and students. Chinese Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, shared highlights from the event on X, expressing optimism about the future of China-India relations.

As 2025 marks the final year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, Wang reiterated China’s commitment to high-quality development and global cooperation through platforms like BRICS, the G20, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

This celebration of cultural and diplomatic ties reflects a shared aspiration for a peaceful, prosperous future for both nations.
