In a landmark expression of interfaith solidarity, academics, faith leaders, and representatives of the Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jain and Sikh communities from across Europe and the United Kingdom gathered at the Angelicum (Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas) in Rome for an enriching international conference, “Building Fraternity through Dialogue and Collaboration.”
Organised by the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, the two-day conference highlighted the growing need for faith communities to work together in promoting peace, mutual respect and social cohesion in an increasingly diverse Europe.
The conference opened with the Lighting of the Lamp ceremony, followed by an inaugural address by H. Em. Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad. Leaders and Representatives from the European Buddhist Union, Council of Episcopal Conferences of Europe, Hindu Forum of Europe, Institute of Jainology, Sikhi Sewa Society, Focolare Movement, and the World Council of Churches gave institutional greetings and reflected on their shared commitment to dialogue and cooperation.
Six thought-provoking sessions over two days explored religious diversity, social cohesion, service to humanity, and the vital role of interfaith collaboration in fostering inclusive and peaceful societies. Participants shared insights and experiences and proposed a practical roadmap to strengthen fraternity across Europe.
The delegation also had an opportunity to meet with the Holy Father Pope Leo XIV during the general audience.
An interesting music and classical dance segment on theme Harmony was presented during the Conference, reinforcing a powerful message: in a world marked by fragmentation, dialogue and collaboration are the pathway to peace and harmony.
A moving Vote of Thanks was rendered by Father Santiago Michael to conclude the programme.
