India on Wednesday delivered another five tonnes of essential medicines to Afghanistan, reaffirming its continued humanitarian support and commitment to the welfare of the Afghan people.
Announcing the assistance, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the latest consignment reflects India’s enduring commitment to humanitarian aid for Afghanistan.
“India delivers another 5 tonnes of essential medicines to Kabul, reaffirming its enduring commitment to humanitarian assistance and the well-being of the Afghan people,” Jaiswal posted on X.
The fresh shipment comes as part of India’s ongoing efforts to support Afghanistan through the supply of medicines, healthcare assistance and other humanitarian aid.
Last week, India reiterated its support for peace, stability and development in Afghanistan while highlighting the deep historical and civilisational ties between the two countries.
Addressing a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, Jaiswal referred to India’s statement during the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) briefing, where New Delhi underscored its continued humanitarian and development engagement with Afghanistan.
He noted that India and Afghanistan are neighbouring countries with centuries old civilisational links and reaffirmed India’s support for peace and stability in Afghanistan and the wider region.
Jaiswal also highlighted India’s ongoing development cooperation with Afghanistan, particularly in the areas of food security, healthcare, pharmaceutical support and humanitarian assistance.
India has continued to provide assistance to Afghanistan despite the country’s ongoing economic and humanitarian challenges, focusing on sectors such as health, education and food security.
In May, India supplied 20 tonnes of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) and Tetanus and Diphtheria (Td) vaccine materials to Kabul to support Afghanistan’s child immunisation programme.
At the time, the MEA said the consignment was intended to strengthen immunisation efforts among Afghan children and noted that additional shipments were being planned.
“India delivers 20 tonnes of critical dry materials for BCG and Tetanus and Diphtheria (Td) vaccines to Kabul to augment Afghanistan’s Child Immunisation Programme. More consignments are underway. India is committed to support the friendly people of Afghanistan in the health sector,” the ministry had stated.
The latest delivery adds to a series of humanitarian initiatives undertaken by India in Afghanistan, reflecting New Delhi’s continued emphasis on supporting the country’s people through healthcare and development assistance.
