Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have reaffirmed the growing strategic depth between India and the United Arab Emirates, placing artificial intelligence and advanced technologies at the heart of a rapidly expanding partnership.
The high-level meeting between Narendra Modi and H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan took place on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, a landmark event hosted for the first time in the Global South. The summit has drawn heads of state, senior policymakers and leading technology executives to discuss the future of AI governance, innovation and inclusive growth.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders recalled the historical ties underpinning India-UAE relations and expressed satisfaction at the steady expansion of cooperation across sectors including defence, trade, energy, culture and people-to-people exchanges. They agreed that artificial intelligence and futuristic technologies now represent a central pillar of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.
In a message posted after the meeting, Prime Minister Modi described the discussions as “fruitful”, noting that both sides explored ways to boost collaboration in AI, supercomputing and investments in data centres in India. The talks come as India accelerates its AI India Mission, aimed at expanding domestic computing capacity and strengthening research and commercial applications of artificial intelligence.
The Crown Prince is attending the summit on behalf of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During their interaction, Sheikh Khaled conveyed greetings from the UAE leadership and reaffirmed Abu Dhabi’s commitment to deepening economic and technological engagement with India. In turn, Modi welcomed the Crown Prince’s visit and underlined India’s ambition to position itself as a global hub for digital innovation.
The two leaders also marked four years since the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which has significantly boosted bilateral trade and investment flows. Both sides acknowledged the surge in two-way investment and encouraged continued participation by UAE sovereign wealth funds in India’s growth story.
Among the key announcements welcomed during the meeting was the finalisation of a term sheet between India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing and Abu Dhabi-based G42, alongside Mohamed Bin Zayed University of AI, for the deployment of a supercomputer cluster in India. The facility will be integrated into the AI India Mission, making advanced computing power accessible to both public and private sector researchers.
The leaders also noted progress in health cooperation, with a Memorandum of Understanding agreed between India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention. The agreement aims to expand professional exchanges, joint research, digital health initiatives and collaboration in pharmaceuticals and medical technologies.
In addition, the establishment of an office by Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company in Gujarat’s GIFT City was welcomed as another sign of deepening financial integration.
The AI Impact Summit itself has placed emphasis on responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence. In his inaugural address, Modi highlighted India’s youthful demographic profile and its vast technology ecosystem, calling for global collaboration to ensure AI serves humanity. An AI-enabled sign language interpretation displayed during the speech underscored the technology’s practical applications.
The summit also hosted discussions under the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, attended by representatives from 58 member countries, focusing on governance frameworks and equitable access to AI technologies.
