Indian Prime Minister to hold talks on trade, innovation and green technology with Swedish counterpart Ulf Kristersson…reports Asian Lite News desk
Narendra Modi will arrive in Gothenburg on Sunday as part of the third leg of his ongoing five nation tour, with talks expected to focus on boosting cooperation between India and Sweden in trade, innovation and emerging technologies.
The two day visit comes at the invitation of Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties across several strategic sectors.
According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, Modi previously visited Sweden in 2018 for the first India Nordic Summit and the latest trip is expected to build on growing relations between the two countries.
During the visit, Modi and Kristersson are scheduled to hold bilateral talks covering the full range of India Sweden relations. Discussions are expected to centre on expanding cooperation in green transition, artificial intelligence, startups, resilient supply chains, defence manufacturing, climate action and space technology.
The leaders are also expected to explore ways to boost economic ties. Bilateral trade between India and Sweden reached 7.75 billion US dollars in 2025, while Swedish foreign direct investment into India has totalled 2.825 billion US dollars between 2000 and 2025, according to the MEA.
Sweden is regarded as one of Europe’s leading innovation driven economies and both sides are seeking closer collaboration in future focused industries and advanced technologies.
A major highlight of the visit will be Modi and Kristersson’s participation in the European Round Table for Industry, one of Europe’s leading business forums. The two leaders are expected to address the gathering alongside Ursula von der Leyen.
The Sweden visit follows Modi’s official trip to the Netherlands, which concluded on Saturday and marked his second visit to the country.
During his stay in The Hague, Modi met King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima at the Royal Palace Huis ten Bosch for bilateral discussions and a luncheon in his honour.
The Indian Prime Minister also held talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, including restricted and delegation level meetings, followed by a dinner discussion.
Both sides reviewed the longstanding trade links and people to people ties between India and the Netherlands and expressed a commitment to expanding cooperation in several sectors.
India and the Netherlands also agreed to elevate bilateral ties to the level of a “Strategic Partnership”, citing growing strategic convergence and stronger high level engagement in recent years.
The two leaders welcomed cooperation during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023 and collaboration linked to the AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi earlier this year.
Modi’s ongoing five nation tour is focused on strengthening India’s economic and strategic partnerships with key global partners across Europe and beyond.
