Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute incentives worth around Rs 2,400 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PM-VBRY) at a special programme at Vigyan Bhawan on Friday.
The scheme, introduced to encourage employment generation and expansion of the formal workforce, has facilitated the creation of around 15 lakh employment opportunities across the country since its launch, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
PM-VBRY has been designed to provide financial incentives to both employees entering formal employment and employers creating additional jobs. The government said the initiative aims to support employment-led growth by increasing participation in the formal economy and strengthening social security coverage.
Under the scheme, individuals joining the workforce for the first time are eligible for incentives of up to Rs 15,000. The support is aimed at helping first-time employees transition into formal jobs.
Employers who generate additional employment opportunities can receive incentives of up to Rs 3,000 per month for each additional employee under the scheme. The provision is intended to encourage businesses to expand their workforce and create sustained employment opportunities.
The scheme provides different incentive periods depending on the sector. Employers in the manufacturing sector are eligible for incentives for four years, while employers in other sectors can receive incentives for two years.
According to the government, the initiative reflects its focus on creating an environment that supports employment generation and ensures that economic growth translates into formal job opportunities, particularly for young people.
PM-VBRY came into effect on August 1, 2025, with a total financial outlay of Rs 99,446 crore. The scheme aims to facilitate the creation of more than 3.5 crore jobs over a two-year period.
Of the total targeted beneficiaries, around 1.92 crore are expected to be first-time entrants to the workforce, according to government estimates.
The scheme forms part of the government’s broader employment strategy, with emphasis on expanding formal sector participation and supporting businesses that create new jobs.
The incentive structure covers both sides of the employment process by providing direct benefits to new workers while reducing costs for employers adding to their workforce.
The government has said the programme is expected to contribute towards expanding employment opportunities, improving access to formal work and supporting the broader vision of a developed India.
The distribution of incentives on Friday marks a key milestone in the implementation of PM-VBRY, with the government highlighting the scheme’s role in promoting job creation and workforce development across sectors.
