Judicial leaders from BRICS nations gather in New Delhi to discuss AI, international disputes and legal cooperation…reports Asian Lite News Desk
Russian Chief Justice Igor Krasnov has arrived in New Delhi to attend the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum, where judicial leaders from member and partner countries will discuss issues ranging from artificial intelligence and international disputes to sustainable development.
Krasnov was received at the airport by Russian Ambassador to India Denis Alipov and other officials. During his visit, he is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with judicial counterparts from BRICS countries to strengthen legal cooperation.
The Russian Embassy in India said a key focus of the discussions would be the growing role of artificial intelligence in the justice system.
“Chief Justice of Russia Igor Krasnov has arrived in New Delhi to participate in the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum,” the embassy said, adding that bilateral meetings would focus on expanding cooperation between judicial institutions.
Iran’s Head of Judiciary, Ayatollah Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, has also arrived in the Indian capital for the forum. During his visit, he offered prayers at Jama Masjid and met its Imam, Maulana Syed Shaban Bukhari. He also interacted with Islamic scholars and religious leaders from different faiths at the Iranian Embassy.
The Supreme Court of India is hosting the BRICS Chief Justices’ Forum in New Delhi from September 4 to 6, bringing together Chief Justices, Presidents of Supreme Courts and senior judicial representatives from BRICS member states and partner nations.
The forum will focus on contemporary challenges facing judicial systems, including justice delivery, international dispute resolution, technological innovation and sustainable development.
Chief Justice of India Surya Kant is scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with heads of judicial delegations, including representatives from Russia, China, Egypt, Indonesia, the UAE, Belarus, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Iran and Uzbekistan.
According to the Supreme Court, the meetings will provide an opportunity for direct engagement and exchanges on matters of mutual judicial interest while strengthening cooperation among participating countries.
The main sessions will examine four key areas: mediation in international commercial disputes, cross-border enforcement of arbitral awards, artificial intelligence and the judiciary, and judicial leadership in sustainable development.
Judicial leaders are expected to explore how mediation can play a greater role in resolving cross-border commercial disputes and discuss challenges surrounding the enforcement of international arbitration awards.
The impact of AI on judicial administration will also feature prominently, with delegates examining how digital innovation could reshape courts and justice delivery.
The gathering forms part of India’s wider BRICS chairship agenda, guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”
BRICS has expanded significantly in recent years and now brings together major emerging economies across Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America, with the judicial forum providing another platform for cooperation beyond traditional political and economic ties.
