Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodriguez arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday on a five day working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperation across key sectors, including energy, trade, investment, healthcare and renewable energy.
Welcoming Rodriguez on her arrival, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit would provide an opportunity for both countries to build on the momentum in their growing partnership and deepen engagement across a range of strategic areas.
During her visit from June 3 to June 7, Rodriguez is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The discussions are expected to cover the full spectrum of India Venezuela relations and explore new avenues for cooperation.
“A warm welcome to Acting President Delcy Rodriguez of Venezuela on her arrival in New Delhi. During her visit, Acting President Rodriguez will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit will further deepen India Venezuela ties and build on the momentum in the bilateral partnership,” the MEA said in a post on X.
Rodriguez is accompanied by a high level delegation that includes Venezuela’s ministers responsible for foreign affairs, economy and finance, science and technology, communication and information, and transportation.
She will begin her official engagements on Thursday with a meeting with Jaishankar, followed by talks with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House. Rodriguez is also scheduled to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat during her stay in the capital.
According to the MEA, the two sides will review cooperation in areas such as energy security, trade and investment, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, transportation and renewable energy. The visit is also expected to identify fresh opportunities for collaboration in emerging sectors.
The Venezuelan delegation will undertake visits to facilities linked to India’s energy, pharmaceutical and automotive industries to gain a better understanding of the country’s industrial capabilities and explore potential partnerships.
Economic ties between the two countries have shown steady growth. The MEA said bilateral trade reached USD 678.94 million in the 2025-26 financial year. Energy remains a key pillar of the relationship, with Venezuela emerging as one of India’s major crude oil suppliers. Reuters reported that India significantly increased imports of Venezuelan crude in recent months, with the South American nation becoming one of New Delhi’s important energy partners.
The two countries also maintain cooperation through projects such as ONGC Videsh Limited’s joint venture with Corporacion Venezolana del Petroleo, alongside growing collaboration in pharmaceuticals, AYUSH, digital solutions and cultural exchanges.
Rodriguez has visited India several times in previous roles, including as Venezuela’s Foreign Minister and Vice President. Her latest visit is expected to further strengthen ties between the two countries, which have traditionally enjoyed warm relations and share a commitment to cooperation among developing nations and the Global South.
