An Indian national was killed in the attack on Kuwait International Airport on Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait confirmed, as authorities continued to assess the aftermath of the strike that left dozens of people injured.
In a statement posted on X, the embassy expressed condolences to the victim’s family and said it was working closely with local authorities to provide assistance.
“Embassy of India in Kuwait expresses its deepest condolences at the tragic demise of an Indian national due to an attack on the airport in Kuwait today,” the embassy said.
“The Embassy is in touch with the bereaved family and is closely coordinating with the Kuwaiti authorities to render all possible support and assistance to the bereaved family as well as those injured in the incident,” it added.
The attack occurred at dawn when drones and missiles struck Terminal One, the main passenger building at Kuwait International Airport, causing significant damage and injuries.
Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned what it described as ongoing Iranian attacks targeting civilian and strategic facilities across the country.
In a statement, the ministry said the strikes hit vital infrastructure, including Kuwait International Airport, resulting in one death, multiple injuries and damage to several facilities, including diplomatic missions.
“The State of Kuwait categorically rejects Iran’s overt aggressive attacks, which lead to increased escalation, heightened tension, and undermine the security and stability of the region,” the ministry said.
Kuwait accused Tehran of violating international law, the United Nations Charter and Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.
Iran has not immediately responded to Kuwait’s allegations.
Health authorities said 63 people were injured in the attack, prompting the activation of emergency response plans across the Gulf state.
According to the Ministry of Health, hospitals and emergency services were placed on high alert within hours of the incident. Officials said seven major emergency surgeries had been carried out and that the country’s health system remained on full readiness.
Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al Otaibi, spokesperson for Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence, said the armed forces were monitoring developments and coordinating with relevant authorities.
He said several hostile drones targeted the airport terminal, causing substantial material damage and injuring multiple people who later received medical treatment.
The attack forced a temporary suspension of air traffic at Kuwait International Airport as authorities assessed the damage and launched emergency operations.
The incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions and has raised concerns about the safety of civilian infrastructure amid the ongoing conflict in the Gulf.
