Iran’s Deputy FM Likely To Attend BRICS Talks In India

India will host BRICS foreign ministers in New Delhi next week as member nations prepare for a major summit focused on global governance and strategic cooperation…reports Asian Lite News

Kazem Gharibabadi is likely to visit India to attend the upcoming BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting scheduled to be held in New Delhi on May 14 and 15, according to sources from Iran.

India, which holds the BRICS presidency this year, is set to host the high level meeting as part of preparations for the 18th BRICS Summit that will take place in New Delhi later this year.

Earlier, Sergey Lavrov also confirmed his participation in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meet. Russia’s Foreign Ministry had announced on April 29 that Lavrov would travel to India for the gathering.

In a statement shared on X, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Lavrov would be in India from May 14 to 15 to attend the full format meeting of BRICS foreign ministers.

According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, the meeting will serve as a key platform for discussions on major international issues and prospects for strengthening global governance.

Zakharova said special focus would be placed on enhancing strategic cooperation ahead of the BRICS Summit scheduled in New Delhi this September.

She also noted that foreign ministers from BRICS partner countries would participate in several sessions during the meeting.

During Lavrov’s visit, Russia and India are also expected to hold bilateral discussions covering the full spectrum of ties, including trade, economic cooperation, science, technology and cultural engagement.

Zakharova said preparations for upcoming meetings of the intergovernmental Russia India commission on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation would also be reviewed.

Meanwhile, New Delhi recently hosted the meeting of BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys for the Middle East and North Africa on April 23 and 24, where participating countries exchanged views on evolving regional developments.

BRICS currently comprises eleven major emerging economies including Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.

India’s 2026 BRICS chairship is being guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting a people centric and humanity first approach highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modiduring the 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
