The veteran actor says his latest international project has reminded him that cinema transcends language and cultural differences…reports Asian Lite News Desk
Veteran Indian actor Anupam Kher has announced his 556th film, ‘Out of Fashion’, a Swedish-Belgian production, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to explore a new cinematic world and discover different aspects of himself.
Kher announced the project on Instagram on Saturday, sharing a photograph with the film’s makers and reflecting on the universal appeal of cinema while working on a production involving a different language and culture. “PROUD TO ANNOUNCE MY 556TH FILM — OUT OF FASHION! A long time ago, I read in a film book, ‘Cinema has no language.’ I heard the words, but I don’t think I truly understood them then. Today, as I find myself on the set of a Swedish-Belgian film, surrounded by people, places and a language different from my own, I feel their meaning,” he wrote.
The actor said cinema could communicate emotions without relying on spoken words, highlighting the ability of performances to connect audiences across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
“A look, a silence, a moment of tenderness!! These need no translation. They remind us that, beneath all our facial differences, we recognise the same hopes, fears and love,” Kher added.
The veteran performer also expressed his appreciation for being part of what he described as a tender and personal film, saying the role had made a strong impression on him.
“I feel deeply grateful to be part of a beautiful and tender #OutOfFashion, and I’m thoroughly enjoying a role that has touched me. God has been kind to give me the chance, even after all these years, to step into new worlds and discover something new in myself,” he wrote.
Kher also acknowledged the people involved in bringing the project to the screen, praising director Jens Jonsson and producers Julia Gebauer and Siri Hjorton Wagner. He thanked Sunil Munshi, who is both the film’s writer and an actor, for creating the story and bringing the team together. He also mentioned actors Helena Bergström, Bahar Pars and Krista Kosonen in his announcement.
The actor described the project as another opportunity to approach filmmaking with a fresh perspective, despite his extensive career in the industry. “Every film is a new beginning. This one has already reminded me that, when a story comes from the heart, cinema truly speaks every language. THIS A SPECIAL ONE! Jai Ho! #OutOfFashion #WhoIsArmandKaiser @sicfilmsweden @sirihjortonwagner,” Kher concluded.
The announcement marks another international project for Kher, who has appeared in Indian and international productions during his career. His latest film brings together Swedish and Belgian filmmaking interests, with the actor highlighting the shared emotions and experiences that can connect people regardless of language.
While details about the film’s plot and release date were not included in his announcement, Kher’s message focused on the experience of working with an international cast and crew and the opportunity to take on a role that offers a new creative challenge.
