India has delivered 20 tonnes of Bacillus Calmette–Guerin (BCG) and Tetanus and Diphtheria (Td) vaccine supplies to Afghanistan as part of its continuing humanitarian assistance to support child immunisation efforts in the country.
The consignment arrived in Kabul on Friday and is aimed at strengthening Afghanistan’s child immunisation programme amid ongoing healthcare challenges.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India remained committed to supporting the Afghan people, particularly in the health sector.
“India delivers 20 tonnes of critical dry materials for BCG and Tetanus and Diphtheria vaccines to Kabul, to augment Afghanistan’s Child Immunisation Programme. More consignments are underway,” Jaiswal posted on X.
The latest shipment follows India’s earlier delivery in April of 13 tonnes of BCG vaccines and related dry material to assist Afghanistan’s immunisation programme against tuberculosis.
India has also stepped up humanitarian support to Afghanistan in recent months following natural disasters and conflict related emergencies.
In April, New Delhi sent Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief materials, including kitchen sets, hygiene kits, tarpaulins and sleeping bags, after floods and earthquakes affected several parts of Afghanistan.
Earlier in March, India dispatched a 2.5 tonne consignment of emergency medicines, medical disposables and equipment to support treatment of those injured in an attack on the Omid Addiction Treatment Hospital in Kabul.
India has repeatedly reaffirmed its solidarity with the Afghan people and said it would continue extending humanitarian assistance during difficult times.
